Reflection on week 1

Welcome to another new course in our program. It was hard not to catch Susan’s enthusiasm about marketing, and specifically IMC, on Thursday night. It will sure be fun to see what the next four weeks brings our way. What stood out most for me was how we kept coming back to the topic of planning with IMC. I completely agree that it is not only important to maintain a consistent message with everything that is done, but also maintaining control of when your messages are distributed. This reminds me of fall ’07 when I was campaigning and we had our media calender all planned out.

I also found this interesting article about Tivo users now seeing ads in different places:

On another note, my job is not going so well. Friday when I went in to work I found out that my hours (as well as those of the other full time employees) were being cut in half. Now my new job has just turned into a part time job. He did say that as business picks up he will give us the hours back. But who knows how long that will be? Until then I would kindly appreciate hearing about any openings you may come across.

Andy, I am interested in your reaction to the new advertising you referenced in your link!

Hang in there -- while the job marketing may not be stunning at this time, your resume is certainly being enhanced!!

I'm curious to see how the subject of the link I referenced will play out. I think I fall in the category of consumers that utilizes the DVR to skip past commercials. If I saw something go over the screen to hit the "B" button for more info I'm not really sure if I would take action or simply ignore it. I guess it would depend on what the offer is. But I can also see benefits for both marketers and consumers.

For example, lets say I'm watching a football game live on Sunday (since this isn't something that is typically recorded for later viewing). During the game a small banner from a pizza place (Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, etc) shows on the screen saying I can order a pizza simply by hitting something on my remote. The charge would apply to my cable bill, and the pizza place would get my address from the cable company. I could see something like this being popular.
